Save Ferris / No Doubt!

Ok, here’s one for you.

Get a No Doubt Album and get an Album by a band named Save Ferris – cool name I know. For any of you who were born around ‘74 or ‘76 you’ll know this slogan, as at one time or another the film from which it came will have been in your list of favourites.
It’s still in mine.

But its getting tainted, and I dont like that.

So, after and evening of general festivities at my pal’s house on Friday we were mid music mayhem talk as we do, when he turns to me and asks ” Have you heard of ‘Save Ferris?’.

“It was a fine campaign,” I said. “I’d have signed the petition.”
My pal is old enough go get my little joke and yet knows me well enough to ignore any facetious comments. He contiunued ‘They sound a bit like No Doubt.”

Well, No Doubt did some good tracks so I thought I’d give it a listen.

Now, he did explain that they were a ska/punk band from California with a female vocalist, so the No Doubt comment was always gonna be there.

What he didn’t tell me that it might as well be, No Doubt.
I sh*t you not, ladies and gentlemen – they are exactly the same, down to the vocal delivery – she actually sounds like Gwen Stefani, although I’d put money on her not having as good a rock-belly.

That would just be the icing on the cake…if she had a better stomach than Stefani.

And it’s not to say the the music isn’t OK too – it sounds like No Doubt, so if you like them ,then there is no reason to not like Save Ferris.

Although it would be really cool if there were sects of people who were die-hard Save Ferris fans who hated No Doubt and their fans, and visa versa. It would be the most ridiculous musical grudge ever.

I almost want there to be the ‘California Ska Wars’:

“Thank’s Ron…and now to news that has shocked the musical community.

2 males and 1 female were found dead today in the street behind an Ihop just off Ventura Boulevard. Shards of broken Save Ferris CD’s litter the street around the vicinity of the brutal murders. Locals say the trouble between No Doubt and Save Ferris has been escalating over the last few years and now this, the culmination of two bands sounding exactly the same. The record industry should have known the impact of their stupidity, and not the let the financial rewards cloud their judgement and ultimately lead to the death of these young music fans – its always the children that suffer, ron, but for now, here’s Tom with the Weather.”

That would be cool.

Word.
